Hello and welcome to The Expat Family.
I’m Meryl, an expat woman, wife, student and mother living with my family in the Maldives. That family includes my newly-wedded husband and our not-quite-three year old daughter, Mila. Before I became a parent I would have told you that I loved travel, Asia, was a feminist, and had widely scattered interests in everything from social justice to nutrition. These days I’m pretty much the same being, but I’d cheerily trade in all of my moral values for sleep.
This is the strange story of our new life here unfolding.
In March 2013 we packed away our lives in New Zealand and hopped on three planes to get here. Now we live on a tiny resort island – an insanely beautiful, crazy, frustrating and eye-opening place to call home! We plan to stay expats for the next few years, making our home in different countries around the globe and hopefully visiting lots of others here and there.
I’m inspired by travelling families and digital nomads – we hope that one day that might describe us! Either way, I’m excited (perhaps a tad too excited!) about the adventures that lie ahead of us.
My husband is a little blog-shy, so I call him Mr C. In lieu of any photographs of him:
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just want to say hello. I’d love to hear from you!
